    What language? Python has PyXDG.

    In shell it’s simply

    XDG_DATA_HOME="${XDG_DATA_HOME:-"$HOME"/.local/share}"
XDG_CONFIG_HOME="${XDG_CONFIG_HOME:-"$HOME"/.config}"
etc.
